Tsakiri (GRE): “Despite a recent injury, I decided to take part in
this competition, firstly because the European Championships are being
held in our country and secondly because I had pressure from my coach. I
wanted to sing out loud our National Anthem, but I restrained myself and
I hope that I’ll be in the same position during the Athens Olympics in
2004. I dedicate this victory to my family—something I always like to
do—and to the children that recently lost their lives. I was very happy
that for the first time my grandparents were here to watch me compete.”

Kirilova (BUL): “I look forward to the next World Championships in
Vancouver and despite the fact that I’ll be 31 then, I hope to be
present in the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.”
Zlatina
Atanasova (BUL): “My goal now is to clinch a berth for the Athens
Olympics in 2004, where I hope to do well, against such a strong
opponent as Tsakiri.”
